I stayed on meavy ward after a hysterectomy and I must say the care I received was outstanding. I would like to thank all staff on the ward, I couldn't of asked for better care. Also a few days after leaving hospital i rang the ward with concerns about my dressing, again the nurse I spoke to was outstanding reassuring me

The doctor I saw lacked empathy when I was feeling distressed, felt I had no option but to go elsewhere.

The only complaint I have is that because of the noise in the wards and lights I found it almost impossible to sleep. The alarms/buzzers were the worst, on many occasions I counted to over 100 bleeps from the alarms. The machinery was noisy and I feel that these issues need to be addressed. The worst noise was in ITU when I felt I needed to sleep, rest and recover the most. All the Doctors and Nursing staff were excellent.

The staff at derriford from cleaners to consultant surgeons are almost all caring and professional. Their vital work is sometimes compromised by lack of staff but it always feels like they are doing their best to help all their patients under sometimes incredible and unbelievable pressure. Waiting for discharge medications from the pharmacy was the chief niggle I had after two inpatient stays last year. Tho I do understand they are also under pressure and must strictly adhere to guidelines and safety rules.

I guess I'm in a unique position in that I work in two completely different departments within Derriford. One within the nhs. The other serco. I was recently admitted for chest and stomach pains. Turned out to be my liver. All departments and wards that dealt with me were absolutely brilliant. I probably wasn't an ideal patient lol. But they all were very professional and understanding. The big plus for me was the constant information I was given, every step of the way. Well done Derriford.

I have written this review on behalf of my father who died in a ward mainly for cancer patients. From tablets left on top of lockers, to bodily fluids from a corpse by the lifts being left for three or four days; to the girl who did not understand NBM and then mystifyingly was left unattended with the drugs trolley another night (I take it she was work experience) to poor communication with us; to drips, my father was meant to have, being left off for hours and hours because people forgot to reattach them after he returned from tests; to being put on a drip intended just for 48 hr use for a patient for a complete fortnight - surgeon angry and disgusted when he saw the situation - to just the shitty attitude of staff with precious few exceptions --- care for cancer victims is dreadful and not much better than workhouse hospitals. My father was a quiet, dignified man who deserved to be treated with reasonable care so he could end his days with his dignity in tact. My mother now fears ever having to go into Derriford Hospital and is likely to pretend all is well with her even if she feels really ill and is in need of serious medical attention

The consultants caring for me were first class , however the nursing staff were not . They were superficially friendly but talked over me , careless in their speech and actions, smelt excessively of aftershave / perfume which is nauseating when feeling ill after surgery. Only one nurse was as good as the medical staff , he was quietly efficient , appeared to have enough time to change my dressings , was professional and did not chat unnecessarily. All the others were far more concerned about discussing their antics of the night before than quietly going about their job.

I was treated with care and courtesy and when I didn't know where to go was given directions (without feeling I was being a nuisance!).
